SuperCACLS for Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003 ================================================== ...from Trusted Systems Services, Inc. SuperCACLS is a suite of five command line utilities: PRACL.EXE REACL.EXE MODACL.EXE TAKEOWN.EXE ACLRESTORE.EXE Use the /about option in any of the SCACLS commands to determine the precise version number of the software. LICENSE ======= *** NOTE: SuperCACLS is licensed for a maximum number of Windows NT/2000 systems based on NT version. These limits are printed on your invoice. General licensing terms (without your specific limits) are displayed during installation, printed when you use the "/? license" option of any command, and contained in the "License.TXT" file in your Application Directory. DEMO VERSIONS ============= Demostration and evaluation versions are limited as to time and capacity. You may use them on a reasonable number of host computers for evaluation purposes only. The general licensing terms in the file "DemoLicense.TXT" applies to demonstration versions. INSTALLATION ============ Install the suite by running the "SetupSCACLS.EXE" installation script which is password protected. Your password is printed on the invoice for purchased versions. The demonstration password is simple "demo". The installation script first creates a standard Application Directory of your choice (defaults to C:/Program Files/SuperCACLS) and copies into it these executables and their documention. You can optionally request to have the SuperCACLS help added to your Start menu. (Because these are command line utilities the commands cannot themselves be added to your Start menu. User your DOS window to run the commands. Note that you can customize the size of the DOS window and most users make it larger.) The script also asks you if you would like to have the executables copied into another directory. You can either manually place the location of the Application Directory in your "PATH" enviroment variable (whereby copying them is not necessary), or copy the programs to a directory that is already in your PATH variable, typically C:\WINNT. The script creates a deinstallation script that you can run from the "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel. The script does not add or replace any DLL's, EXE's, INI's, or any other items in your standard system directories. It is quite a "benign" installation. You can reinstall SuperCACLS or install a later version without deinstalling the previous one. HOWEVER, make sure you use the same options for copying the programs to an alternative directory so as to overwrite the previous versions. DOCUMENTATION ============= SuperCACLS manual is contained in a help file named "SCACLSMan.CHM". (*** Note the ".CHM" suffix.) Because it uses the new Microsoft HTML Help need to be running Internet Explorer 5.0 (the more recent, the better). *** NOTE: Microsoft HTML Help appears to yet be a bit buggy, but the bugs only seem to affect formatting. For those who cannot use SCACLSMan.chm, the file "SCACLSManFrame.htm" is a traditional, frame-based HTML file. You can use any browser to navigate the manual via this table of contents. However, we recommend using the *.CHM file whenever possible. MANUAL DE-INSTALLATON ===================== If the Add/Remove Programs deinstallation program fails to function properly, take the following steps to manually remove SuperCACLS from your system: 1) Delete the Registry key and it tree: HKLM\Software\TSSSuperCACLS 2) Delete the application directory where you installed SuperCACLS, by default: C:\Program Files\SuperCACLS 3) Delete the commands from your root folder, if they exist there: PRACL.EXE REACL.EXE MODACL.EXE TAKEOWN.EXE ACLRESTORE.EXE 4) Remove the SuperCACLS application directory path name from your system "PATH" environment variable (if it exists) using the System Control Panel.
